The Son of Lafourche First, Or We Won't Get Fooled AgainRemember
Lafourche First? That was the organization responsible for bringing you government by Charorge - husband wrecks, husband plane tickets, generators for family use, private use of public property, DA BAGS, the 10th Ward neglected as never before, public employees check-shorting, the 10th Ward courtrooms closed, the end of recycling, Cat 5 flood protection above the Intracoastal, Cat 3 below, millions of $ squandered, battery on Councilmen and general bullying of those Charorge believe they have sway over. (The day of reckoning ain't going to be pretty on that last one, George. You may not be able to live here no more.)
But, in the beginning, I must admit, Lafourche First was well-intentioned. The core of the group was made up of prominent and successful members of the Lafourche business community who were fed-up with the Buzz Breaux/Council 5 stalemate and wanted more harmonious and thereby, presumably, more effective government in our fractious Parish and were willing to put their money where their mouths were. Many of them knew Charlotte and George through the various community business groups the hapless duo managed to burrow their way into. Unless you are willing to delve much below the surface, Charorge can sound like they are knowledgable about issues facing the Parish. Unfortunately, the Lafourche First movers and shackers didn't have enough time during cocktail hour or their "interviews" to delve too much below that facade and discover the King was butt nekkid. Hey boy, it's like your momma told you, be careful what you ask for, you may not like it.
Informed sources tell TPRTK that, in anticipation of this Fall's elections, former Lafourche Firsters are seeking a viable alternative to Charorge, desparately. I say "former" cuz based on having given us Charorge, those people know that, as an organization, their reputation is as shot as the valves of a 1962 Buick eight cylinder driven 100,000 miles without an oil change. I guess it could be argued that by seeking an alternative to Charorge, those individuals are trying to rescue that reputation or trying to redeem themselves. I say Amen for that brothers and sisters!
While ya'll at it, could ya'll maybe find a job for Charorge away from the public trough paying about $70K so that the insanity that will prevail if they seek reelection can be avoided? They just need a job, man. And people tell me they're looking like they need some serious depressurization. And me, I really have better things to do than having to spew even worse filth until November. Maybe ya'll could stake them an advertising business in Mamou or political consulting/lobbying gig in Baton Rouge.
(BTW, Charorge's campaign finance report will be available in about two weeks from that Ethics Commission link over to the right.)
(BTW, part 2, wouldn't the story of Charorge's reign make the next great Southern Political Novel? "All Charorge's Men" I'm still waiting for that dramatic, cataclysmic climax, Charorge. I'm sure ya'll ain't going to disappoint. Anybody got an inside at Simon & Schuster, Random House or one of the other big publishing houses? Dude, I'm on dis!)
