More Trouble Every Day
According to documents obtained from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's office, embattled DPW Chief Ray Cheramie was arrested Wednesday, June 7, for simple battery. The charge arose from an incident which allegedly occurred between Mr. Cheramie and Councilman Daniel Lorraine after the February 13 Council meeting, wherein Mr. Lorraine alleges that Mr. Cheramie pushed him.

No arraignment date is known. However, that first appearance is usually approximately one month after the date of arrest, so we can expect an early July date. Of course, that is contingent on the DA filing a bill of information. He has total prosecutorial discretion, which means that he may not be forced to prosecute all charges presented to him by the Sheriff. Sometimes, after evaluating the police report and witness statements, the DA determines not enough evidence is present in order to successfully prosecute a charge.

Stay tuned!
